Our next trip in our 12 trips in 12 months adventure was Austin, Texas! My brother lives in the area and we thought this would be a perfect way to visit him AND explore a city that’s been on our list for a while. We found so many great things for families this trip…definitely put Austin on your list!

AUSTIN • TRIP 2 • DAY 1

KALAHARI RESORT

Our first stop in Texas was actually not Austin! We stopped in Round Rock to visit the Kalahari Resort, and let me tell you…this indoor water park was AMAZING! We spent so much time there and our kids absolutely loved it. There were plenty of things to do for kids of all ages. Definitely a perfect family vacation idea!

We knew the water park would be fun, but we were pleasantly surprised with how many things there were to do besides! There were so many restaurants, so many stores, and so much fun! It was definitely a full-on resort.

We stopped at Tom Foolery’s Adventure Park as well and did the ropes course. It was so fun to watch the kids be so brave and do the courses and climbs! We will definitely be back - this resort was so so fun!

AUSTIN • TRIP 2 • DAY 2

DOWNTOWN AUSTIN TOUR

Today was the day that we really explored the city of Austin! We met up with my brother and he rolled out the red carpet and showed us around. We started the day with a walk to Fleet Coffee and got some breakfast tacos at La Santa Barbacoa…which were probably the best breakfast tacos I have ever had!

After we were fueled for the day, we headed to the Austin Central Library. Most of my kids loved it - not the vibe for one of them! Then, we headed to the Pedestrian Bridge and walked across. This is definitely an Austin experience and worth the walk!

Exploring Austin, Texas
Outside the Blanton Museum of Art

Lunch was at Micklethwaite BBQ where the kids loved finding pecans and cracking them open while they waited for food; it was one of those little moments that makes traveling with kids so fun…I never would have thought to do that myself! After some delicious BBQ, we went to the Blanton Museum of Art! My kids aren’t the biggest art museum fans, but my brother loves them, so we thought we’d give it a try. This turned out to be pretty chaotic with kids because they were distracted and restless, so we left after just a little while to let the kids run around outside. Maybe we’ll try art museums again when they are a bit older and more able to appreciate the experience! The last place we went before taking a break was the Texas State Capitol. The kids were still pretty restless, so we decided to just pop in for a quick look. Definitely worth the look!

After a quick rest and reset and check in with the RV, we grabbed a quick take-out dinner at Home Slice and took it back to my brother’s place to eat and hang out! We loved Austin, but we especially loved spending time with my brother. He is the best!

We only scratched the surface in Austin for this trip! There are so many family- and kid-friendly things to do in the city, and we feel so lucky that we got to experience what we did! It always makes traveling so much better to be visiting family or friends, so definitely 10/10 recommend taking kids along with you. And DEFINITELY recommend seeing the country with an RV. Even though there is a learning curve, we are loving this experience and the memories we are making as a family! Can’t wait to bring you along for Trip 3!

Xoxo, Lauren
