As a mom, there’s something truly magical about seeing the joy and excitement in my kids’ eyes when the holidays roll around. This year, I wanted to make that magic even more special by transforming my daughter's room into a gingerbread house! Imagine the delight of walking into a space that looks like it’s made of sugar, spice, and everything nice. The best part? It’s a completely DIY, budget-friendly project that brings the enchantment of the holidays to life—without breaking the bank.

Here’s how I turned my daughter’s room into a cozy, sweet gingerbread house where she can dream, play, and create magical memories:

TURNING MY HOUSE INTO THE NORTH POLE:
GINGERBREAD HOUSE

The entryway is always the first impression, so I started by transforming the door into a giant piece of gingerbread. I wrapped the entire door with brown kraft paper using packing tape, making sure to cover every inch for a smooth surface. Once it was all set, I painted a gingerbread house design on it, using fun girly colors like soft pinks, light blues, and pastel purples.

I added little details for extra charm, keeping the design playful and girly to match the theme of the room. The result was a warm, inviting gingerbread door that immediately set the tone for the rest of the space.

Next, I wanted to make the windows look like they were part of the gingerbread house as well. I started by cutting foam board to fit the window frames, creating window casings that would give the room a gingerbread-like structure. To add a "frosting" effect, I used Gaps and Cracks foam, which is typically used for insulation but works perfectly for this project.

I applied the foam around the window casings in thick, icing-like swirls. While the foam was still wet, I pressed large, life-size candies into it—think oversized gumdrops and peppermint swirls. After the foam dried, I spray-painted it white to make it look like sugary icing. The final touch was mounting the foam window frames around the windows, creating the illusion of a gingerbread house with windows frosted in icing and adorned with colorful candies.

The next step was adding some cute wall decor to match the gingerbread house theme. I had a few wooden nutcracker figures that I had found at Hobby Lobby, and instead of leaving them as they were, I painted them in pastel colors that would complement the girly theme of the room. Think pinks, lavender, and soft blues. These adorable nutcracker soldiers were the perfect addition to the space, adding a touch of whimsy and holiday cheer.

Once painted, I hung them up on the walls, making sure they were placed strategically to add some dimension to the room. They not only helped tie the whole theme together but also gave the room that magical holiday feel.

To complete the gingerbread house look, I added a pink Christmas tree to the room. This tree, decorated with cute pink and white ornaments, was the cherry on top of the entire transformation. It fit perfectly into the room’s theme, bringing a cozy, festive vibe that my daughter absolutely adored.

The final result was a room that felt like a real-life gingerbread house—a place where my daughter could dream, play, and immerse herself in the magic of the holidays.

Turning my daughter’s room into a gingerbread house was a labor of love, and it took a lot of time and effort. But seeing her face light up when she walked into the room for the first time made it all worth it! It was the perfect holiday surprise, filled with sweetness and whimsy that captured the magic of the season.

If you're looking to add some extra sparkle and joy to your home this holiday season, I hope this project inspires you to create a little gingerbread wonderland of your own!
